Dr. Kate Walters-Thornton was born and raised right here in Salt Lake City.
Dr. Walters graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University. Upon completion of her DVM, Dr. Walters completed a small animal rotating surgical/medical internship at Florida Veterinary Specialists in Tampa, Florida. Her professional interests include feline medicine, surgery, ophthalmology and zoo medicine.
Veterinary medicine appealed to Dr. Walters at an early age when she discovered that it would allow her to follow in both of her parent’s professional footprints.
She loved the combination of medicine that her mom practiced as a registered nurse and the conservation/love of animals her dad practiced as a state wildlife biologist.
Outside of work, Dr. Walters enjoys the outdoors-skiing, hiking, camping, cycling and running. She also enjoys great food-new restaurants and cooking at home– and travel-both domestic and international.
Dr Walters and her husband Dave have 2 dogs, a heeler/border collie mix named Reese and a German shepherd named Linux, and three cats named Dillon, Hendrix and Ella.
Dr. Walters is excited to be part of a hospital that offers so many professional services and expertise all under one roof. She is looking forward to the collaborative workplace and to establishing lasting relationships with Willow Creek’s clients and furry family members.
